The big week is finally here! We are just 2 days away from finding out if our little blessing is a boy or girl (actually, less than 48 hours, ahhh!), and the anticipation is killing me! Of course, all we really want to see is a healthy baby moving around and dancing on the screen. BUT - I am so, so excited to find out the gender so that we can start shopping, working on the nursery and most of all so we can come up with a name for baby Fertig (besides "Eddie" - more on that story in another post). All of the cute baby clothes have been calling my name every time I pass them in a store, but I have been patiently waiting to find out what we are having so I wouldn't have a closet full of yellow! We're hoping to maybe get some deals this weekend with a little Black Friday shopping and a trip to the outlets Sunday.
So anyway, I thought it would be fun to compile a little list of some of the crazy old wives' tales to help us decide what baby Fertig might be!
Boy
• Our ultrasound tech guessed at our first ultrasound that it is a boy based on which way the "tail" was pointing (it was pointing up rather than straight out)
• Chinese Gender chart says BOY!
• Even age at conception (26) & Odd year (2011) - Legend has it that the Mayans determined a baby's sex by looking at the mother's age at conception and the year of conception. If both are even or odd, it's a girl. If one's even and one's odd, it's a boy
• Craving salty/sour foods
Girl
• Heart rate over 140 BMP
• The necklace test says girl (went in circles rather than back and forth in a straight line)
• My face is breaking out more than usual
• My belly is more evenly round rather than lower & pointy
Could go either way:
• Even though I didn't actually get sick very much (only twice), I was nauseous pretty much every morning and at night during my whole first trimester. You have more morning sickness if it's a girl (I'd say this counts), but since it wasn't very strong, it could be boy.
It seems to be pretty even! As far as guesses from friends and family, it seems to be split down the middle as well. Most people on my side of the family are leaning more towards a girl and I think Kyle's family is leaning more towards boy. I am guessing boy, I think mostly because we heard that there is an 85-90% chance it's a boy at our first ultrasound, so that has been stuck in my brain ever since! Kyle is thinking boy, and crossing every finger and toe that the ultrasound tech guessed right early on ;) Obviously we will be happy either way, but it has still been fun to guess!
So - what do you think?
